Dental Evaluation in Scottsdale By Terry Work on May 04, 2022

They say that your oral health is an essential part to your overall health. Bad oral hygiene has been linked to diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes. This is why it is important to visit your dentist for your regular check-ups.

When you schedule an appointment with Dental Works as a new patient, the first step in being able to help you take care of your oral health is the comprehensive dental evaluation.

On episode 81 of The Dental Works Podcast, Dr. Terry Work and Ted talk about what takes place in a dental evaluation. The evaluation allows Dr. Terry and Mary Ann Work to fully get to know you and your overall health. Regardless of what outcome you would like, the steps to a complete dental evaluation stay the same:

  • Patient Health & Medical History
  • Oral Evaluation
  • Determining what service the patient wants or needs
  • Determining financial situation and medical limitations

Patient Health & Medical History

One of the most important and useful steps is getting information from you about your health and medical history. This can include records from previous dentists as well as your regular doctor records. It is important to be accurate and truthful with your medical history because this allows Dr. Work to be aware of any diseases or medications that may interfere with your dental treatment.

Oral Evaluation

The next step is the oral evaluation. During your oral evaluation all parts of your mouth will be checked. X-rays may be needed depending on if Dr. Work detects something that may require x-rays. This oral evaluation determines where your current oral health is at and to detect any issues.

Determining the Service or Procedure

After your oral evaluation, the next step would be getting to know you and what kinds of services you are thinking of getting or needing, whether it be cosmetic or something more general. With the information from your medical history and your current oral evaluation, Dr. Work is able to determine if the service you desire is right for you. If you are wanting your teeth to be whitened but Dr. Work finds multiple cavities, he is going to recommend you get treated first before any cosmetic procedures because our main concern with our patients is making sure their oral health is taken care of first. Of course, Dr. Work makes sure to give you what you desire but he cannot, in good conscience, overlook issues with your oral health.

Financial & Medical Limitations

The last step is determining your financial situation and any medical limitations. We understand that some services can be costly, that’s why we offer financing options for our patients and make a plan that works for you. Additionally, Dr. Work will review any limitations, if any, due to something in your medical history.
Having your dentist do a complete dental evaluation allows them to establish a baseline of your current dental health, in addition to detecting any issues. With this knowledge, the team can be proactive with your dental care to make sure any issues are overcome and give you the healthy and beautiful smile you deserve.

Dr’s Terry and Mary Ann Work have been doing dental evaluations for the Scottsdale community for decades. If you are interested in becoming a patient of Dental Works and would like to learn more, please contact us today to schedule an appointment for your complete dental evaluation.
